Coda Octopus Colmek Awarded Contract for the Development of Telemetry and Signal Processing Backbone for Northrop Grumman`s Helicopter Towed Sonar

Coda Octopus Group, Inc. (CDOC) announced the successful contract award to design and build technology related to the AN/AQS-24A mine hunting sonar.  These technologies will be designed for Northrop Grumman (NOC), prime contractor for the AN/AQS-24A, with whom Coda Octopus Colmek (Colmek) continues to have a longstanding relationship as a technology partner since the early 1990s.  Colmek`s contribution to the new system enhancements will emphasize constructing new telemetry, plus new hardware and software, which enables a High Speed Synthetic Aperture SONAR (HSSAS) capability.

These system upgrades will provide the AN/AQS-24A with increased image resolution, improving the mine detection and classification capability, coupled to a streamlined signal processing architecture.  Colmek designed the predecessor technology (AQS-24 and the AQS-14) and will use its longstanding know-how to develop state of the art technology for the AN/AQS-24A mine hunting sonar.

The naval mine has become commonplace in modern warfare and can be found in active use around the world.  Dealing with the threat of mines is an on-going issue, one which requires sophisticated equipment to detect, classify and localize.  The AN/AQS-24A allows operators to deal with this complex threat to high value assets operating in potentially mined waters.

The AQS-24A and its predecessors, the AQS-24 and the AQS-14, have been the only operational airborne mine hunting search systems used by the U.S. Navy for the past 27 years. The AQS-24A is a high speed mine-hunting system that is primarily towed from the MH-53E helicopter. With a track record of proven reliability and performance across the globe, the system`s high-resolution side-scan sonar detects, localizes and classifies both bottom and moored mines in real-time at high area coverage rates.

“Colmek`s two decades of application design project support on the AN/AQS-14 and AN/AQS-24 has made the company a key business partner for Northrop Grumman,” said Gene Cumm, Northrop Grumman`s Director of Business Development at the Undersea Systems Business Unit in Annapolis, Maryland.

“Colmek is excited for the opportunity to help Northrop Grumman enhance this program capability,” said Jason Martin, Vice President of Engineering, for Colmek. “By using our expertise in developing path-breaking, ruggedized engineering solutions for the government and commercial sectors, Coda Octopus Colmek is poised to further expand and support Northrop Grumman in this significant venture.”

About Coda Octopus Group, Inc.

Originally founded in 1994 as Coda Technologies, the Coda Octopus Group is now headquartered in Lakeland, Florida.

The Group consists of a Marine Products business located in Lakeland, Florida, Edinburgh, Scotland, Perth, Australia, and Bergen, Norway, and engineering businesses, Coda Octopus Colmek in Salt Lake City, Utah and Coda Octopus Martech in Weymouth, England. Each of the Group companies are technology innovators with a particularly high level of sonar expertise. The Group has facilities in Florida, Utah, the UK, Australia, and Norway.

Alongside providing bespoke engineering and development for defense applications one of the Group's key products is the patented Coda Echoscope® - the first real time 3D sub-sea sonar which is used in oil and gas, underwater construction, search and rescue operations and port and harbor security and constructions. The top end software which runs on the Echoscope® (Underwater Survey Explorer) is also proprietary to Coda Octopus. The Echoscope® is also at the heart of the Underwater Inspection System which is being adopted for port and harbor security, and other applications globally. We have a number of products which are based on our real time 3D technology (Echoscope®, Underwater Inspection System and Dimension® (the latter being a forward looking real time sonar targeted at ROV applications)).

With this patented revolutionizing sub-sea visualization capability, and the existing systems integration skills within Coda Octopus Colmek, Inc. and Coda Octopus Martech Ltd., the Coda Octopus Group believes it can become a world leading integrated sonar technology supplier.
